Remote workstations

Remote workstations have two components. The client software is run through a terminal session on the Patriot server (or dedicated terminal server). A local copy of the client is also run which controls the playing of alarm sounds (if required). Although terminal services is capable of playing sounds through the terminal session, it is not reliable enough in a monitoring situation (you get no link failure warning).

Setup Terminal Client

Install and configure the client program on the Patriot server or dedicated terminal server. Check that the client connects correctly. Then put a shortcut to the client onto the desktop of the windows remote user who needs to run the remote workstation.

If you need to run multiple concurrent clients remotely, then make a copy of the client installation folder for each additional user required. Locally run this new copy, and change the Legacy Interface Port (configured from the login window) to a different port. Each copy of the client must use a different port. This port must be free on this machine.

Patriot Command Line Options might be useful when configuring Terminal Services. Auto-login can be used to bypass the standard login window. This can potentially be combined with the Terminal Services option to disable the desktop and run only a single application to ensure operators use only Patriot.

Workstation settings can also be overridden with a command line switch, if some remote operators on the Terminal Services computer require custom settings.

Setup Remote Sounds

Install Patriot 6 client on remote workstation, and patch it to the same build no as the server.

Start the client and make the following settings in the login window. Set Server Name to the external address of the Patriot server. Standard Server Port No. is 8001 and needs to be changed if another port is used. It's likely that the monitoring stations firewall will to NAT this port to the Patriot server inside the network.

Once connected, open Settings > Workstation Settings. Change the Alarm Sounds option to Remote Sounds. Restart the client. When restarted, the program runs as a stripped down version of the client that only plays alarm sounds for this workstation as required.

The name of the alarm sounds played are global settings and can be changed in V6 Client under Settings > System Wide Settings > Alarm Sounds Settings. Make sure these files exist in the client installation program of the local computer.

If connection to the Data Service is lost, Warning.wav is played. Filename is fixed. So if you want to change the alarm sound for lost connection, you need to rename another .wav file to Warning.wav and put this in the client installation folder. You should test this works by disconnecting the computer from the network.
